Low Self-Esteem Counselling

Self Esteem Counselling, Newcastle
The Hole

Low self-esteem is related to our feelings of self-worth and self-belief. Having enough helps us to be more resilient and productive in our relationships and our working lives. Equally, a lack of self-esteem is a common issue – but one which can be remedied through therapy.

To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself. Thich Nhat Hanh

Identifying Factors Include:

  • Lack of Confidence
  • Shyness
  • Low Self-Belief
  • A need for assertiveness

Self-esteem is about self-worth or self-value and arises automatically based upon your beliefs. That is, it is linked to your thoughts about yourself, your feelings and inevitably, it is linked to your behaviour. Self-esteem affects what you choose to do in your life, your feelings and your overall level of contentment.

Therapy for low self-esteem looks at the causes, how it affects your day-to-day living, and what you seek to change. Counselling takes place within the therapeutic relationship which provides a protective and safe environment in which to explore new ways of being more confident and will facilitate the insight and self-belief necessary to apply this to your life journey.

How can Therapy Help?

All that you need is deep within you waiting to unfold and reveal itself. All you have to do is be still and take time to seek for what is within and you will surely find it. Eileen Caddy

Therapy is an effective way to work to develop your strengths in a supportive environment in which you are helped to learn and experiment with new ideas and techniques which you can then integrate into yourself.

In short therapy helps you to:

  • Gain insight and understanding you yourself through exploring thoughts, feelings and behaviours associated with low self-worth.
  • Learn to effectively manage your moods and behaviour.
  • Improve your self-concept.
  • Learn new skills and techniques if relevant (e.g. assertiveness is often helpful)
